Central Texas Visitor's Guide

Hays County towns

The Hays County towns of Buda, Kyle, San Marcos and New Braunfels are part of the I-35 Corridor between Austin and San Antonio .  Lots of cool things to see and do:
Kyle

Well, not a whole lot to do in Kyle except live.  We got a Costco...let's see, what else. Nope, got nothin'.  Wait! La Ola Pop Shop  has terrific home-made ice pops (paletas) and ice cream for the summer months.  I like Aviator Pizza & Drafthouse too, good pizza and a big selection of suds.  But that's about it for Kyle.   Pretty sad, isn't it?

Buda

Walk the main downtown strip, lots of cool restaurants like Dos Olivos market and Brooklyn's Down South .  Have a coffee made with oak-roasted beans at Summer Moon , Austin region's favorite coffee house.

San Marcos

Walk the campus of Texas State University  and the beautiful parks along the San Marcos river.
Have a terrific brunch at the delicious Kerbey Lane Cafe .  Get an outdoor table by the river if weather permits.
Don't forget to save time for some shopping at the San Marcos Premium Outlets

New Braunfels

Visit Schlitterbahn , America's biggest and best waterpark!    Closed from 18 Sept 2023 to  20  April 2024.

San Antonio region

No trip to San Antonio would be complete without spending time at the Riverwalk , the #1 visitor attraction in Texas.  If you've never been, it's a must-see.  The Riverwalk Cruise is a great way to learn more about San Antonio history.

People worldwide, when they think of Texas, remember one thing - The Alamo .  See the awe-inspiring story of the Mission's history come to life.

Austin region

The Texas Capital is one of the nation's most distinguished state capitols.  It's an amazing building, well worth the trip.

The University of Texas at Austin , UT Austin or just UT, is one of the nation's leading research universities, ranked #9 in the nation.  Plus, the campus is huge and beautiful.

Austin's 6th Street is a famous downtown scene for bars and live music.

Texas Hill Country

Wimberley  is a cool little town just 20 minutes west of Kyle, and is the start of the Texas Hill Country.  Lots of eclectic shops and nice restaurants.  There's some nice parks along the Blanco River too.  We always make time for some ice cream at Monster Treats , since they serve the delicious  Amy's Ice Cream , made in Austin.

No trip to the hill country is complete without a visit to Fredericksburg !  Festivals and events, wineries, restaurants, breweries and shops all packed into a quaint German-tradition town.  Check their website for the latest events.
